So, I’m hanging my show at Secession in less than a month! This show is going to be up til the end of November, and will coincide with Open Studios (our weekend is Oct 9-10). Today I’m designing the postcard I’ll use to promote my newest work. If you’d like to get a postcard from me, please email me your address.
The photo is of a piece that I just finished and haven’t gotten professionally photographed yet. I have a few more pieces I’ll have to get shot before I hang them at the end of September. This painting, “Superb Tanager”, is the biggest one I’ve done in this series (24×36″), but I’m hoping to finish a 30×30″ for the show, too.

I’ve been able to spend a lot of time in the studio over the last month or so, and that’s good, because I have a lot of painting to do! I’m getting something more than a dozen completed paintings photographed this Friday in preparation for my Open Studios show, which goes up September 27 and stays up til the end of November.
I also have a show of my Earthly Desires works going up this weekend at the Variety Screening Room - the reception will be Thursday, August 5, I believe 5-7pm, and the show will be up for August and September.
This photo is of my favorite brush, which I’ve recently retired but haven’t been able to get rid of completely. I call it the Velveteen Rabbit brush, because it’s been so loved that it’s pretty much not there anymore. I guess that makes it real. I wish I could buy brushes pre-aged (maybe not this far gone, but not nice and shiny-smooth). I like when my brushes are on the roughened side, to give some texture to the paint - I do a lot of dry-brushing and really scrub at the surface and generally maltreat my poor brushes. I try to wash and condition them well, but eventually they do wear out and become useless.

I’ve been working away like mad on my newest pieces: embroidering and crocheting when I’m not in my studio, and painting when I am. I’ve been working on something like six or seven pieces at once, because the techniques I’m using involve a lot of layers of medium, and each layer requires a fair bit of drying time in between. So I flit from painting to painting - there’s always something do to.
I’m hanging several of my newer pieces at Arrivederci Cafe, 11 G Street in San Rafael, CA. They’ll be up June 26 - August 12.
Also, on Monday, June 28, I’ll be participating in Arrivederci’s weekly Salon, organized by Angar Mora. Join us if you can! I’ll be presenting a short talk about my latest work and techniques, along with some other performers (details to come). There is a $7 cover charge, which includes a 25% discount on dinner orders - make a reservation for 5:30 with the restaurant (415) 453-6427 if you can, mentioning the salon.
For more information about the salon events, take a look at this Examiner article.

Yesterday, I hung up pretty much all of my remaining “Earthly Desires” paintings at On Mars, a hair salon in the lower Haight. Actually, since I sprained my shoulder a couple of weeks ago and am not able to do a lot of heavy lifting, I recruited a friend to do most of the hard work. Thanks, Bob! The walls in the main part of the shop are bright orange-red and the paintings look extra dramatic against that background.
Earlier this week, I got five recent Net and Nest paintings photographed to put on my website and Facebook page. One of the paintings had already been sold, but came back to me briefly so I could sand and finish the edges properly. I took the opportunity to document it. Getting photos taken of my work always makes them feel more like real objects to me, somehow.
And I’ve already signed up for this falls Open Studios. My studio neighborhood is Weekend One again this year, which means October 9-10. My art will be up on the walls at Secession for October and November.

Happy New Year! A quick update - I’m hanging a lot of my latest work at Andalu restaurant this Monday, January 4. The reception is that very evening, so please come have dinner with us at Andalu: 3198 16th St. @ Guerrero, San Francisco - 415.621.2211. 10% of the evening’s profits will be donated to Streetside Stories. It’s a great chance to see all my latest work in one place. The artwork will be up at Andalu through the month of January.

I hope your December’s been great so far. I’ve had the usual hectic-getting-ready that this month usually brings, along with an unseasonable (for San Francisco, anyway) cold snap. I’ve been shivering at home and in the studio working on some new Net and Nest paintings, of which you can get a sneak peek if you visit my studio at Secession Art and Design, 3361 Mission St, noon to 7pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
All my small butterfly paintings and boxes are available at Secession too! These are original mixed-media paintings and boxes, and since most are well under $100 they make really lovely, thoughtful gifts. Secession’s going to be open til 7pm on Christmas Eve, so even your last-minute shopping can support independent artists and designers!
If you’re not in San Francisco, or prefer to shop online, these paintings are also available on my Etsy site - I’m offering free shipping there through the end of the year.
In the new year I am going to be showing my Net and Nest paintings at Andalu restauarant, January 4 to February 1. And in July I’ll be showing some work at Arrivederci in San Rafael. I’ll keep you posted.

Many of my “Earthly Desires” paintings are hanging in the display window of Vi Gallery at 4 Embarcadero Center. It’s a boutique located on the Lobby Level (which is one floor up from street level), and the window with my art is quite near the staircase leading to the ice rink.
These paintings will be at Vi Gallery til January, so be sure to stop by! The boutique is full of other interesting artisanal fashions and decorative items, and is definitely worth checking out.

I’ve heard from a few people that they’d like to be able to subscribe to a calendar of art events that I’m involved in, so to that end, I’ve created a Google Calendar called Heather Robinson Fine Art. If you’d like to check it out, subscribe or share it with others, here’s the HTML link. If you use an iCal compatible calendar, here’s the iCal link. Let me know if you have any problems with them.

I’ll be sending an email about this sometime this week, but I’ve got several events and shows going on this month and the next, so I thought I’d tell you about them here.
This weekend, I’m showing work with the San Francisco Artist Guild at the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park on Saturday the 7th. Stop by if you’re going to the deYoung or the Academy of Sciences; we’re right in between.
I’m showing some of my Earthly Desires work at the St. Stephen’s Art Angels show in Belvedere, November 13-15. Friday night is the preview party, and the show is open to the public on Saturday, 10a-5p and Sunday, 9a-1p.
After that weekend, most of my Earthly Desires paintings will be displayed outside Vi Gallery in the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco. I don’t have exact dates yet, but they should be up for around a month starting in mid-November.
We’re having a happy hour at Secession Art and Design, 5-9pm on Friday, November 20! This is to mark the ending of the show of my latest work, Net and Nest, which comes down on November 29. If you haven’t had time to see it yet, please come by.
Lastly, I’ll be showing work at Chillin’ on the evening of December 5 at the Mezzanine.
Whew! I hope to be able to squeeze in some actual painting this month, as well.

Some of my work from the Sugar and Spice series is now hanging up at The Front Porch. It’s one of my favorite local restaurants, just a couple of blocks from my studio, and I’m thrilled to have my paintings showing there. My art will be up til sometime in December.
