New art on the site

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Last week in the studio was very productive - I finished three paintings that I’ve been working on. That makes a total of five paintings that I’ve completed in the last few month; a bit slower than I’d like to be working, but there you have it. So I spent time with my photographer, Bob Hsiang, yesterday, getting the latest paintings photographed. It seems…final, like I am putting them to bed, to have them documented. Now they are up on my website, please take a look!

So, with the completion of those five paintings, I feel like this series might be at an end for me. It’s a strange feeling, especially since I am not sure what I’ll be doing next, yet. I need some time and space to think about new things, which I haven’t been able to carve out for myself. I’ve been busy with domestic matters and the business side of art, but stuff is percolating in my brain and in my notebook. I’m hoping to get enough spare time to be uninterrupted in my studio for awhile, but I know it’s something I’ll have to work hard to get. In the meantime, when I’m in the studio I’m working on more butterfly boxes, which I plan to sell at the Marin Art Festival in June.

I’ll be sending out an email soon about the upcoming shows I’m doing with the Artists Guild of San Francisco and otherwise.

New Thing

Monday, April 20th, 2009

This was an exciting weekend for me: I got juried into the Artist Guild of San Francisco. I’ll be doing outdoor exhibits with them for the next six months or so as an initiate member, and if it works out I will hopefully become a full member. I’ll keep you posted as to when I’m showing; I pick up my equipment this week and will start doing shows sometime in May.

More new things soon!

Not enough studio time lately.

Last week I didn’t go to my studio at all, since I was ill. This week I’ve managed to get in there and finish a couple of paintings (including this spoon one, entitled “La Gadoue” or The Muck) and start another one. Tomorrow I’m travelling to Austin to visit friends and family and check out a few galleries, so I’ll miss my studio for another week. I’m really looking forward to the trip, though.

What have I been up to away from my studio? I’ve been doing a lot of design/web work helping Secession get ready for their new show, and I’ve been putting more of my small pieces on Etsy. I’m also getting ready for the Marin Art Festival in June: my to-do and to-bring lists keep getting longer.
