So in between doing AGSF shows and doing all the things I have to do to ramp up for the Marin Art Festival (making new boxes, getting a sign, doing publicity, et cetera, et cetera), I’ve had a few moments to work on new pieces. This is one of them, in progress. I’ve embroidered a word on raw muslin and then mounting it with soft acrylic gel to a board, and then painting on it. I’ve been thinking about incorporating embroidery into my paintings for some time, and so far I like the results, although stepping back from painting the entire surface feels a little dangerous. At the same time, I really like the look of the bare cloth. In July I plan to get more serious studio time and will be working along these lines; I hope to have enough for my show at Secession in October.
