New show is up!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Monday I hung my new show at Secession. I had more work than I had space on the wall, so I had to cull a couple of pieces, but I think it ended up being a pretty good and cohesive set. This show has several smaller inexpensive pieces in it, which is a bit of a change for me. I hope it will be successful.

Aside from my  work, there’s new prints by Brian Schuck which are lovely, and paintings by Nate1, plus an entirely fresh set of clothing, jewelry and accessories in the boutique area of the gallery.

This show is up on the wall til November 28, but the big weekend for it will, I think, be Open Studios, which happens in my studio neighborhood (Mission/Bernal Heights) next weekend, October 10-11. We’ll be open and I’ll be there 11am-7pm on Saturday the 10th, and 11am-6pm on Sunday the 11th. The opening party is that Friday night, the 9th, 6:30 to 9:30pm. I am aquiver with anticipation.

Getting closer

Friday, September 18th, 2009

The last few days have felt very productive, but not so much in terms of actual artmaking. I’ve finished off a couple of pieces, and am anxious to work on more. But this week’s mostly been about getting other stuff ready for the Open Studios show I hang at the end of the month. I’ve wired all my paintings (except for the few pieces I’ve had to get framed professionally, which are supposed to be finished soon), waxed all the wood edges, designed my postcard and gotten it printed, done a lot of design and web work for Secession, sorted my mailing list, and so on and so forth.

Now, the artwork for the show is just about ready to be hung. It’s mostly a matter of getting the word out so that people come to the opening and the Open Studios weekend.

Speaking of which, come to my opening at Secession!

Opening reception Friday, October 9, 6:30 - 9:30pm
Featuring paintings by Nate1 and Heather Robinson, prints by Brian Schuck and jewelry by Colleen Mauer and Twelve Designs
I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday the 10th and 11th, 11am-7pm as well, for Open Studios. The show, which I’m calling “Net and Nest,” is going up on September 28 and stays up til November 29, so if you can’t make it on Open Studios weekend, come by another time to look.

My art at Vi Gallery

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

A few pieces of my “Earthly Desires” series are now up at Vi Gallery, along with three of the Butterfly Boxes and a couple of Butterfly Paintings. Vi Gallery is a lovely shop at 4 Embarcadero Center. I’ll be showcasing more of my paintings there in November and December: I’ll give you more details closer to the date.

My new work is online!

I spent today trying to fight off a cold, but also processing the new photos of my work to upload to my website. Here they are! Thanks for looking - I’d love to know what you think.

My show goes up at the end of the month

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Open Studios is fast approaching! I’ve been working on entirely new paintings for the last few months, but it’s about time to start worrying about all the other prep that goes into a show - getting work photographed, wired or framed, printing postcards, doing a press release and so on. I really need to work on my artists statement, as well, and I’d still actually like to finish a couple of more paintings, but may not have time. So yes, much to do.

Today I did check something off my OS to-do list: I got fourteen pieces shot by Bob Hsiang and will be putting those up on my website in the next few days - I’ll let you know when. You can see some in-progress shots on my Flickr stream, in the meantime.

My show is going to be up at Secession from September 29 to November 28, so if you can’t make it on Open Studios weekend (October 9-11 for me), come by another time.
